Eastbourne theatres presents: Jack and the Beanstalk. Did you enjoy the story of Jack and the Beanstalk as a child? Why not watch a life action telling of the famous story only 10 times funnier and 10 times wackier.
I see the pantomime every year with my nanna and cousin and this year we were not disappointed once again. Me and my nanna always enjoy the pantomime and have been going for many years. My cousin has only been going a few years and doesn’t always enjoy them, due to having a low attention span, but this year his eyes were glued to the stage.
The pantomime starts off with a musical performance with the dancers and one or two main characters. The singing and dancing were incredible. Then we are given some backstory to what is happening by Fairy Fuchsia played by Natalie Hope. Her costume, in fact all the costumes, are glamourous. They’re all very colourful and yet suit the time period being portrayed. But no costume can beat Dame Trott’s, played by Martyn Knight, various dresses. All the dress and extremely colourful and glittery and over the top which perfectly matches the dame’s crazy personality. The legendary Tucker comes back once again to play the comic relief and this year it’s Simple Simon. His silly personality and cheery attitude keep kids smiling.
The sets are incredible. From the title card to the village, they’re all perfect. But the masterpiece of the pantomime is the beanstalk. A giant green tower and we see the actors climb it. This is amazing especially since I saw the previous Jack and the Beanstalk performance a few years ago and it was just silhouettes climbing a moving screen, so this year was an amazing improvement.
By the end of the pantomime, my hands were sore from clapping so much and my throat sore from cheering. But don’t let that put you off, it’s all part of the fun and interacting with the performers.
This Pantomime is fun and hilarious for the entire family. It brings joy and a smile to anyone. I would 100% recommend this pantomime. I rate this 10/10.
